U.S. Rep. Zack Space (OH-18) today joined a bipartisan push to create a new National Military Family Relief Fund to benefit America's military families. Under the legislation that Space cosponsored, taxpayers can contribute a portion of their tax return to the newly-created fund when they complete their IRS forms.

"Our military families make tremendous sacrifices as their loved ones are called upon to serve, and we need to support those families just as we support our men and women in uniform," Space said. "The legislation I cosponsored gives the American people an easy way to support our military families by opting to donate part of their tax returns to military families in need."

H.R. 1175 establishes in the Treasury a National Military Family Relief Fund that will be used to assist the families of service members who are serving in or have served in Iraq or Afghanistan.

"The spirit of this bill is to provide relief for any deserving military family that needs temporary financial help to get through a tough time," Space said. "Contributions are entirely voluntary, and it doesn't cost American taxpayers a single cent. Anything we can do for these patriotic families is well-earned and well-deserved."

Congressman Space attended the Muskingum Valley Red Cross Military Family Fest in Zanesville on Saturday. He has served Ohio's 18th Congressional District since 2007, and has been working to restore integrity to the office and create the conditions to bring new industry and jobs to Ohio.
